SID NEIGUM : S/S 2015 COLLECTION : MODULAR ORIGAMI

NICO9167This season Canadian Designer Sid will be presenting a new collection in Paris which has been inspired by and uses the concept of Modular Origami as well as his continuing interest in package design.

Modular Origami is simply the process of folding multiple numbers of an origami unit to create a larger and more complex structure . The first historical evidence for a modular origami design comes from a Japanese book by Hayato Ohoka published in 1734 called Ranma Zushiki.

Research and development began with creating modular origami paper sculptures and studying the way 3 dimensional structures could be built from 2 dimensional modules.

After studying Kusudama ( balls of paper flowers ) and Sonobe Modules, the same modular shapes used in paper origami were laser cut into fabrics.  These fabric modules were then “woven” together to create garment details or, in some cases, full garments.

Sonobe is a type of modular origami, this piece below is 600 laser cut sonobe modules that were sewn together by hand. It is the aim of the Designer to create an aesthetic which exists somewhere between high-tech and artisanal and can combine the best aspects of the two.

The new collection will also feature unisex pieces that 26 year old Sid has created with personal use in mind.

YUHL JUNG S/S 2015 : “SUNYATA” DETAIL SHOTS

D 1 copy2The following images are not official look-book shots but are simply to show the quality of the work and the materials used. Most of the raw materials are selected with meticulous attention and made with genuine care in small ateliers in France. Each of the fabrics may seem fragile and powerless on their own but as the layers of the fabrics add up and come together as a garment they yield a strength that creates protection for the wearer.

YUHL JUNG S/S 2015 COLLECTION : “SUNYATA”

3

SUNYATA : emptiness , voidness , free from earthly perceptions ( of right and wrong ); the state of ultimate reality.”

We are very proud to present these new concept images from Paris-based Label YUHL JUNG. Creative Director Moon Kim was born in Korea , spent his childhood traveling in South America and studied Psychology and Design in New York and then Paris. More recently he has worked for Fashion Houses such as Rick Owens until finally making the conscience-led decision to create his own project and label , the mission of which is to spread a positive resonance through his creations and a message of benevolence, nonviolence, and unconditional compassion through his work. He balances his creative work with his meditation practices in the hope that it will lead ultimately to a greater awakening and understanding both for himself and for those who see and wear it. The label name YUHL JUNG actually means  ‘a clear flow like water.’

This is the debut collection for the label which embodies the core values of the Designer. The idea of the emptiness of the Sanskrit word “Sunyata” is a positive state which is full of endless possibilities which are explored in these designs. A very hopeful and optimistic message for hard times. Sunyata is represented by the predominant white tones and the combined strength created by layering delicate fabrics such as bio-washed cotton and delicate , translucent linens. Each of the fabrics may seem fragile and powerless on their own but as the layers of the fabrics add up and come together as a garment, they yield a strength that creates protection for the wearer on their journey to enlightenment.

Moon Kim seeks to convey a genuine message through his label : of values such as compassion, self-discipline and nonviolence that can be hard to find in this industry and society in general. In this way he feels somewhat opposed to the normal way that things are run and hopes to offer a more positive perspective in order to bring balance to the industry.

YUHL JUNG will debut in Paris this September. Please click on these individual images to get the full power of all the details.

The minimal outlook of IE pieces leaves room to a private dimension experienced only by the wearer, as the real complexity of the garments is exclusively revealed by their inside.”

TVSCIA S/S 2015 COLLECTION : INTROSPECTION

img_9456This season the Collection takes inspiration from the great artist, Egon Schiele. His psychological introspection and intensity of expression are the soul of the Collection. His melancholy landscapes inspired some prints and the spirit of his sensual women inform the design.

These minimalist and monochrome shots of the collection serve as a stark contrast to the theme.
